General Range and Membership information 973-764-4100
NOTE: Current work projects may require closing one or more of the ranges at Cherry Ridge. Please check the range availability hotline 973-764-1333 before you come to the range! Open to members only with shooting from 8:30AM to dusk 364 days each year. Ceasefire is called approximately one half hour before sunset. Closed on Christmas Day. The range property has been owned by the Association since 1935. A paved road leads to the ranges and the clubhouse. Potential members must attend a range safety orientation before being permitted use of any range. Clubhouse: Built in early ‘80s with kitchen facilities, rest rooms and a large meeting area with tables and folding chairs.
Range Store: Located inside the clubhouse front door the range store provides rental items such as clay bird throwers, target frames and staple guns. It also sells targets and shooting accessories. It does not sell ammo or firearms and there are no plans to do so in future. The store is open daily from 9-4 in the winter and 9-5 in the summer.
Handgun Range: Twenty five and fifty yard target stands available with turning targets at 25 yard range. Member owned portable target frames built to range specifications or purchased on site may be used to shoot at closer distances (see below). Covered firing ports with electricity is available for match amplifiers, chronographs, etc. There is a light and sound system for cease-fires. Thirty-seven open firing ports are available. One ransom rest table is available. Nine holster draw ports are available with proper certification. Target frames may be needed for this range, available for rental or purchase at the range store. There are also steel targets provided. Only range provided or spec targets may be used. Children under 12 are not permitted to use this range and over 12 they must attend a safety course to do so.
Rifle Range: 25 yards, 50 yards, 50 meters, and 100 yards. There are seventy firing positions with the 20 right hand positions configured for smallbore and the ten left hand positions are configured for black powder shooters. Many shooting benches are available. Covered firing ports with electricity available for match amplifiers, chronographs, etc. There is a light and sound system for cease-fires. There is a large shed with scoring tables and benches for use during matches and clinics. Target frames are needed for this range, available for rental or purchase at the range store. The ten left hand ports are set up for use by black powder shooters with racks to ease in loading. There are concrete benches available for benchrest shooters and many of the benches have brass screens.
Multi-Purpose Range: Covered firing positions to accommodate 25 shooters. .22 rimfire caliber
only, rifles and pistols are permitted. No magnums. Formal targets are only available for matches. Bring your own targets at other times. Informal falling plates are available at all times. Air pistols and rifles shooting pellets are permitted but not BB guns.
High Power Rifle Range: 200 and 300-yard with pits. The 300-yard line is covered. There are portable umbrellas available for the 200 yard line. There are 32 target positions in pits. Firing is done at the 200-yard line until 1:00PM and then switches to the 300-yard line except on Wednesdays and during matches. Please check match schedule online as range use varies widely on weekends. A large shed is available to store the match equipment for the wide variety of competitions held. Target frames are available in the pits that permit members to attach targets onto the face. Competition targets have their own frames that are attached to the movable uprights. Members must bring (or purchase at the range store) their own target faces.
Shotgun Range: This range has automatic throwers and can be used as a five-stand. Members can also attach their own traps to a wide rail provided and throw their own clay birds or can rent throwers for $20 at the range store. The five-stand is available for use by members and guests at a charge per bird of $.30. Shotguns must have full stocks.
Archery Ranges:We have three archery ranges that give archers a variety of ways to shoot: Archery Range A – This range is open all year and has bag targets staged from 10 yards to 50 yards while shooting in a woods environment. You shoot from a platform and the targets are rated for bows/crossbows up to 400 fps. Broad head
arrows are not allowed, field/target points only.
Archery Range B – This range is open all year and offers a place for members to bring and shoot at their own targets. You shoot from a platform and targets can be placed up to a distance of 40 yards. There is no arrow or bow type restriction,
only archery rated targets may be used.
Archery Training Range – This range offers an opportunity to try International Target Style Archery. The range has 10 & 15 meter shooting distances with 10 shooting lanes. All equipment is provided and this range is only in use
during specific scheduled and supervised events.
