CARRY-KILLER BILL AMENDED TO REMOVE BAN ON COMMON TOOLS |
Bill Still Bans Right To Carry Of Firearms |
October 31, 2022. As anticipated in our last alert, we can now confirm that the carry-killer bill was amended in Senate committee last week to address the issue of banning common every day tools nearly everywhere. The bill's draconian provisions no longer apply to carrying a "weapon" (absurdly defined in NJ law to mean any common tool that could be misused), but now apply to carrying a "firearm or destructive device." See the current Senate version of the bill by clicking here. However, the bill's absurd provisions blocking carry in common public places (by falsely labeling them as "sensitive places") remain, and the legislation is still completely unacceptable. The legislation is supposed to be scheduled for a second committee hearing in the Senate at a future date, and any changes made in the Senate would have to be adopted by the Assembly in order for the bill to eventually make it to the governor's desk. Please continue to watch for additional updates and alerts on this legislation throughout November and December.
