US Supreme Court Agrees To Hear Carry Law Challenge!

U.S. SUPREME COURT AGREES TO HEAR
CHALLENGE TO NEW YORK CARRY LAW!

April 26, 2021. Today the United States Supreme Court agreed to hear a Second Amendment challenge to New York’s highly restrictive carry law – New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen (Corlett). The move signals that the high court will finally make a ruling on right to carry in the future.

Like New Jersey, New York law violates the U.S. Constitution by making carry permit applicants first prove to bureaucrats that they have a sufficient reason to carry a firearm, and the permit can be denied for a failure to do so.  But this directly violates the Second Amendment, which guarantees citizens the fundamental right to bear arms without having to demonstrate need.

If the appeal succeeds, it will likely have a key impact in all of the restrictive carry states including New Jersey. This could eventually prove a major benefit to ANJRPC's own pending carry challenge in the Garden State, Mazahreh v. Grewal

The New York case will likely proceed to briefing and oral argument over the Summer and into the Fall, with a decision likely during the first half of 2022 if not sooner.
