LEGISLATURE SENDS NEW “SMART GUN” BILL + 1
TO GOVERNOR’S DESK; 4 OTHER ANTI-GUN BILLS
STALL FOR LACK OF SENATE ACTION

June 20, 2019. Today both houses of the legislature passed A1016 / S101 (the “smart gun” law revision) and A5454 / S3897 (punishes certain possession of guns and ammunition without wrongful prosecution safeguards for honest gun owners).
These two bills now move to Governor Murphy’s desk for signature. Four other anti-gun bills were passed in the Assembly only, and are therefore not going to the Governor’s desk at this time (due to lack of action in the Senate).
Please immediately contact Governor Murphy’s office and tell him to (1) VETO “smart guns” (A1016 / S101) – swapping one government mandate for another will doom the technology to failure by pushing gun owners away instead of allowing interest in the technology to develop naturally; (2) set an example by immediately requiring his own security details to use only “smart guns”; and (3) CONDITIONALLY VETO A5454 / S3897 to add needed protections against wrongful prosecution of law-abiding gun owners. Click here for the Governor’s contact page. Select “Law and Public Safety” from the list of topics, then select “Civil Rights” from the list of subtopics, complete the remaining fields and click “submit.”
The four anti-gun bills that passed the Assembly but did not move to the Governor’s desk are: A3696 / S2240 (making firearms inaccessible when not in use); A5452 / S3876 (FID card renewal and mandatory training for ownership of firearms); A5453 / S3879 (intended to punish criminals but contains hidden traps that affect honest gun owners), and A5455 / S3898 (electronic reporting of gun and ammunition sales only involving law-abiding citizens).
