GOVERNOR MURPHY ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF
GUN CRIME PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN

March 12, 2019.  Today, Governor Murphy announced the expansion of a gun crime propaganda campaign begun by his administration nearly one year ago.

In addition to monthly and quarterly publication of New Jersey gun crime data (circumventing federal restrictions banning the release of gun trace data), the Murphy administration will now also be including data identifying the manufacturers of recovered firearms.  Reporting such data falsely implies that legal, highly-regulated manufacturers are somehow responsible for the actions of those who unlawfully acquire and misuse their products -- like holding car manufacturers responsible for the theft and criminal misuse of their cars.

In addition to attempting to "name and shame" gun manufacturers who have done nothing wrong, the propaganda campaign also appears intended to coerce gun manufacturers into adopting and following various demands of anti-gun advocates.

The move appears to be part of a larger regional effort by Murphy's coalition of anti-gun states to manipulate data for the purpose of influencing public policy not only in New Jersey but in other states as well. Unfortunately, the reporting by the Murphy administration would be entirely one-sided, and would completely ignore reporting of the hundreds of thousands of times each year nationwide that the mere presence of a legal firearm stops crime, often without a shot fired.

Governor Murphy also took the opportunity to renew his call to the legislature to punish law-abiding gun owners for the acts of criminals and madmen with higher gun permits and fees.
