| June 30, 2025. Thanks to a sustained pressure campaign by New Jersey gun owners over the past few weeks, a package of anti-gun bills being jammed through the legislature has been stalled for the moment, as the legislature enters its Summer recess period. That was apparently not the intention of anti-gun lawmakers, who had disrupted the already-frenetic June budget process in a last-minute bid to force the gun bills onto the Governor's desk at the last minute before the recess. The delay marks an embarrassing moment for gun-grabbing lawmakers, who are usually more accustomed to bending, breaking, or changing the rules to achieve their desired outcome on their preferred timeline. But make no mistake -- the anti gun bill package will be back on their docket, sooner or later. Rather than proposing legislation that actually punishes criminals, the bills in the legislative package instead focused on manufactured "problems" that aren't really problems at all -- a typical election-year tactic of changing the subject to distract the public from lawmakers' failure to address real issues that matter to the public. See our more detailed analysis of legislation in the bill package by clicking here to see a recent alert we issued. While these bills will be back and gun owners need to be ready to continue to vigorously oppose them when they return, gun owners should also take a moment to appreciate the fact that their efforts have derailed the push to fast-track them into law before Summer. Our efforts matter, and they can make a difference.
