Governor and Attorney General to Make
“Gun Safety” Announcement at 11 a.m.

January 26, 2018.  ANJRPC sources in the State House have confirmed that Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Gurbir Grewal are scheduled to make a “gun safety” announcement this morning at 11 a.m.

Whether the announcement concerns smart guns, magazine bans, gun bans, or something else, one thing is for certain – the event marks the official kickoff of the Murphy agenda on firearms, which is sure to be focused on demonizing hardware instead of punishing criminal behavior with guns.

“There’s only one gun law needed,” said ANJRPC Executive Director Scott Bach. “If you commit a violent crime with a gun, we lock you up and throw away the key, or even invoke the death penalty if justified.  Every other scheme to regulate hardware affects only the law-abiding – who are not the problem to begin with.  Criminals laugh at hardware bans.”

During last year’s gubernatorial campaign, Murphy’s said he wanted to limit magazine capacity, ban large caliber firearms, activate the “smart gun” ban on conventional handguns, tax gun ownership, regulate ammunition, reverse all of Governor Christie’s actions, and mandate training, among other things.
