Not Again! Another Anti-Gun School Wrongly Disciplines Student
Share |

April 20, 2018 – ANJRPC has demanded in a lawyer letter that the Gloucester County Institute of Technology immediately rescind disciplinary action taken against a student earlier this year for failing to remove a t-shirt depicting firearms in a non-threatening manner.

The student was instructed to cover or remove a t-shirt with the slogan “My rights, My Freedom” with silhouettes of various firearms arranged in the shape of a U.S. map in the colors red, white, and blue.  When he failed to so, he was disciplined by the school.

Prohibiting the mere display of images of legal firearms is a clear violation of the First Amendment. ANJRPC has accordingly demanded that the school district immediately rescind and expunge its disciplinary action, apologize to the student and his family, and provide assurances that similar violations will not take place in the future.

“ANJRPC is prepared to sue if the school district refuses to do the right thing,” said ANJRPC Executive Director Scott Bach.  “Schools do not have the authority to chill the First Amendment rights of their students concerning firearms, and this blatant infringement of constitutional rights will not be tolerated.”

“This latest incident is part of a disturbing pattern of blatant disregard for student liberties by schools that has recently come to light,” continued Bach.  “ANJRPC is fighting back and we are pleased to announce the formation of the ANJRPC Student Liberty StrikeForce™ – an aggressive legal project intended to address this issue throughout the entire New Jersey school system,” said Bach.

The ANJRPC Student Liberty StrikeForce™ is being spearheaded by ANJRPC attorney Dan Schmutter, Esq.  If you are aware of any schools that have blatantly infringed the First or Second Amendment rights of students with regard to firearms freedom, we want to know about it.  Please email us at or leave a message at 973-697-9270.  Please spread the word!

“Gun owners are tired of being blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen, and we will not tolerate a culture of political correctness in our schools that censors free speech about this critical issue,” Bach continued. “Americans have the right to defend themselves against evil and firearms are an important tool that criminologists estimate save millions of lives each year.  Schools should encourage robust debate on the subject, and it is illegal for them to censor free speech about the Second Amendment.”
