NRA Basic Pistol Classes
Intended for beginners or as a refresher for
experienced shooters this course will teach the basic knowledge, skills
and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. The course
is a minimum of 10 hours and covers the following topics:
- Pistol knowledge and safe gun handling
- Ammunition knowledge and the fundamentals of
pistol shooting
- Firing the first shots
- Two-Handed and One-Handed Standing shooting
positions
- Pistol sports and activities

NRA Basic Muzzleloading Rifle Class
Intended for beginners or as a refresher for experienced shooters, this
course will develop the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential
to the safe and efficient use of a muzzleloading rifle. This course is a
minimum of 12 hours and covers the following topics:
- Rifle knowledge and safe gun handling
- Black powder and loading the muzzleloading rifle
- Firing and cleaning the muzzleloading rifle
- Shooting from the standing position
- Shooting from the crossed sticks (sitting) position
- Rifle games and activities

NRA Home Firearm Safety
Intended
for all firearms owners this course
will teach the basic knowledge and skills and explain the attitude necessary for the
safe handling and storage of guns in the home. The course is a minimum
of 4 hours and

- Identifying and unloading different firearms
- Practical exercises in safe gun handling
- Types of ammunition
- Cleaning and storage of firearms

NRA Basic Personal Protection Inside the Home
Course participants must be EXPERIENCED shooters
(mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group,
zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm). Validation of shooting
experience can be one of the following:
- NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate
- NRA Marksman Qualification Program (pistol
disciplines)
- Pistol qualification card
- Military DD 214 with pistol qualification
- Concealed carry permit
- Passing the Pre-Course Evaluation
This course will develop in the students the basic
knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use
of a handgun for protection of self and family within their home, and to
provide information on the law-abiding citizen's right to self-defense.
This course is a minimum of 8 hours and may take more time as required
to meet the mandatory performance objectives. |

NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Classes
Course participants must be experienced shooters
who possess the basic knowledge and skills of safe gun handling and
handgun shooting. They must also have the basic knowledge skills and
attitudes taught in the NRA's Basic Personal Protection in the Home course.
Validation of shooting experience can be one of the following:
- NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course Certificate
- Passing the Pre-Course Evaluation
This course will develop in students the knowledge, skills and
attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the
safe, effective, and responsible use of a concealed handgun for self-defense outside of the home.
This course is a minimum of 9 hours for Level I and an additional 5
hours for Level II and may take more time as required to meet the
mandatory performance objectives. |

Program
- Using a training team
- Training materials and training aids
- Organizing your course
- Preparing to teach
This course is the mandatory pre-requisite for all
subsequent NRA Certified Instructor training. |

NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home Instructor Training
Candidates for this course must be experienced NRA
Certified Pistol Instructors and pass a comprehensive pre-course
assessment consisting of a written exam, gun handling exercises and live
fire exercises. Instructors who complete this course will possess the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary
to conduct the NRA Personal Protection Course. This course is a minimum of
9 hours not including the pre-course assessment. |
