Please Tell Legislators to Vote No!
March 13, 2017 – Bypassing the committee hearing process entirely, and without even posting the text of the measure for public review, anti-gun lawmakers have at the last minute scheduled a full Senate floor vote this afternoon on resolution SCR-149. The resolution is in support of a legal challenge to the Christie Administration’s new regulation (adopted last week) allowing those facing serious threats to qualify for a handgun carry permit.
A companion resolution, ACR-234, has also been scheduled for a full Assembly floor vote this Thursday, March 16.
Please immediately tell every State Legislator to Vote NO on SCR-149 / ACR-234. Tell them that it is extreme and outrageous to intentionally block those facing serious threats from defending themselves, especially since the U.S. Supreme Court has held that the police have no legal duty to protect individual citizens. A “yes” vote will create victims and prevent the most vulnerable members of society from defending themselves.

“The Right to Bear Arms necessarily includes the right to self-defense with a firearm outside the home,” said ANJRPC Executive Director Scott Bach. “Although 43 states recognize that right, New Jersey remains one of a handful of backward states that apparently prefer their citizens to become victims – except for legislators, who themselves enjoy the armed protection of State House security. New Jersey’s days denying its citizens right to carry are numbered.”
