URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT!

On Thursday, May 10, the New Jersey Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee is scheduled to consider legislation that would ban most .50 caliber and larger firearms (including popular hunting rifles), increase firearms license fees, and authorize future fee increases by unelected bureaucrats.

A3998 would ban and criminalize the possession of most firearms of .50 caliber or larger, including one of New Jersey’s most popular hunting rifles (the in-line muzzle loader), .50 caliber handguns, the .50 bmg rifle, and dozens of collectible Civil War and post-Civil War era firearms.  These firearms are not involved in criminal activity, and are used regularly by law abiding citizens for hunting, target shooting, collection, and competition.

A3494 would increase fees for firearms purchaser ID cards, pistol purchase permits, carry permits, and dealer licenses by as much as 10 times their current levels.  More importantly, the bill would give the Superintendent of State Police discretion to annually adjust these fees, essentially giving an unelected public official the power to make the exercise of Second Amendment rights in New Jersey unaffordable.

Please immediately email, call, or fax the members of the NJ Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee, as well as your own Assemblyman or Assemblywoman, and urge them to oppose these bills.
