Cal Ellis

Cal Ellis, the President of
the Association of New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs, passed away April
29 in Reno Nevada, where he had attended the NRA
convention. He was 79 years old.
During Cal's tenure as
President, from 1989 to 2002, the ANJRPC vastly expanded in membership and influence. Cal
also promoted programs which introduced women and minorities to the
shooting sports, and greatly increased the availability of firearms safety
training.
Cal was an electrical
engineer with Loral Electronics Co. of White Plains, N.Y. and Yonkers,
N.Y., for 18 years before retiring in 1981. Earlier, he had been an
electrical engineer with McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Mo., General
Electric Corp. in Syracuse, N.Y. and ITT in Clifton.
He earned a bachelor's
degree in engineering from Texas Tech University in 1947.
Cal served with the Army in
Europe during World War II.
He was an elder and a member
of the session, both of Parsippany Presbyterian Church, and was also a
member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
Born in Belen, N.M., he
lived there, in St. Louis and Syracuse before moving to Montville in 1975.
Cal is survived by Lyn, his
wife of 55 years, sons Mark and Alan, and five grandchildren.
