Association Awards Junior Scholarships  

At its annual meeting on October 20, 2002, Larry Braico, Scholarship Committee Chair, announced the winners of the ANJRPC fifth annual Junior Scholarship Awards. Kara Strawn, daughter of Margaret and Dean Strawn of Long Valley and John G. Bilby, Son of Pat and Joseph Bilby of Wall Township. Each winner was presented with a check for $1,500 and an awards trophy at the meeting.

Kara Strawn is a 2002 graduate of West Morris Central High School and is currently attending Duquesne University. In her three years participating as a junior shooter, Kara achieved these classifications in the following disciplines:

Sharpshooter: Outdoor Prone, Indoor Prone, Outdoor 3-Position, International Outdoor Prone, International 3-Position Outdoor, 3-Position Indoor, Outdoor 4-Position, Indoor 4-Position, International 3-Position Indoor, International 4-Position Outdoor, International 4-Position Indoor. Expert: International Air Rifle

She has also won or placed in the following competitions: NRA Open Sectional (4/21) Air Rifle, Marksman, 19th in nation; NRA Open Sectional (1/27) Smallbore, Marksman; 19th in nation; Garden State Games 97/14) Smallbore, Sharpshooter – 1st Sharpshooter, Gold Medal.

John G. Bilby is a 2002 graduate of Bishop George Ahr High School in Edison. He is currently attending Rutgers University. John’s shooting achievements have been of the noncompetitive type, mostly while accompanied by his father, Joe. John impressed the judges, in part, with his understanding of firearms and Second Amendment issues and his ability to pen that understanding into periodically published writings.
