2004 Annual Meeting
Highlights
The Association held its annual
meeting on October 17, 2004 at the Ramada Inn in Somerset, New Jersey. The
meeting included committee reports, updates on activities and the
election of officers. In addition
to individual members, volunteers, officers and committee chairs, the
Association welcomed many rifle and pistol club
officers from around
the state.
Highlights included
In other presentations, ANJRPC Executive
Vice President Scott Bach told members of NRA’s commitment to
the fight in New Jersey. He announced that the keynote speaker for the
2005 ANJRPC Annual Meeting will be the next President of the NRA, our
good friend Sandy Frohman.
Legislative Action Chair Robert Viden
gave a brief summary of activity in the state during the past year. In
encouraging people to vote for candidates who supported the Second
Amendment, he asked everyone, “When was the last time Americans
mobilized a citizen’s militia to defend themselves from foreign
attack?” As listeners thought about it, he gave the answer,
“September 11 on a plane over Pennsylvania.”
Frank Sevean gave reports on
membership, the High Power League and the Civilian Marksmanship Program
and the two major events, YouthFest and NRA
Day that and Sharon Sevean coordinated during the year. He thanked
all the volunteers who had made the events possible, with special focus
on the “common laborers, the table movers, food handlers and everyone
who makes the events work.”
John Gemill, Pistol Chair,
outlined the new focus on development of junior pistol shooters and how
well they did at Camp Perry this year. He also presented Dave Lange
with state championship medals for both indoor and outdoor pistol. See
2004 New Jersey State Pistol Championships and NJ Pistol Team at Camp
Perry for details.
Steve Serna reported another
successful Summer
Biathlon season. The series at Cherry Ridge is sanctioned as part of
the U.S. Biathlon series and draws competitors from around the
states.
Angel Rodriguez, standing in for
High Power Captain Carl Leisinger, III, gave the report on the team’s
performance at Camp Perry. He also recognized Tom Foster, who won
BOTH the New Jersey
Service Rifle and Match Rifle Championships. This is an
accomplishment; no one has ever won both before.
Mandy Otero reported on the
smallbore teams at Camp Perry, who were faced with storms packing winds
of up to 70 miles per hour through the 3-position matches. The
Association junior team of Michelle Bauer, Lafe Kunkel, Jennifer Pason
and Casey Gabriel won first place in the Expert class with iron sites.
Details for all the junior teams at Camp Perry are available at the
Somerset Junior Rifle Club website: www.somersetjrc.org.
